Garmont may not be a familiar name to North American alpine skiers, but telemarkers, Euros and alpine touring types have been using them for years. The current line of Garmont boots includes some very cool AT/Alpine crossover boots; the Adrenaline, Endorphin and Xena. These boots all feature swappable soles, so you can use a plastic DIN sole for your standard alpine bindings, or a rubber hiking sole with a AT binding like the Naxo. They are also quite light, and have a walk setting for added comfort while skinning or hiking. The heat moldable thermo liners are warm, comfy, and provide a versatile fit.
The Endorphin was new last year, and quickly gained a strong following among adventurous skiers who ski hard inbounds and out. It skis very well, and could easily replace your alpine boots, as long as you are not looking for race level precision. It's not a super light AT boot, but the Endorphin is still a solid performer on the uphill. The walk mode is easy to use, and it hikes surprisingly well for not having much rocker. The Adrenalin is very similar, but lighter, softer, and less expensive. The Xena is lighter still, and has a ladies specific fit.
Skiers looking for backcountry turns without sacrificing performance should check out Garmont. These boots along with the new Marker Duke binding are blurring the line between alpine touring and alpine skiing.
